Follow-up......Pie weights

First off, I"m sorry I didn"t get back here sooner. Been real busy. I must have misled you all when I said I have a FEL. I don"t have it on the tractor and I don"t plan to plow with it on the tractor. I see from the pictures that someone posted that pie weights are bolted to a mount, not to the wheel. I didn"t know that. I still think I would like wheel weights. Maybe I could hang weight under the rear on the same hangers I use for the sway bars, (if thats what their called). Maybe 2x6 plate steal? Maybe more? My tires are pretty good, but I wonder if tire chains would help? If I find wheel weights, that will be my first choise! Thanks for all the advise.

I do not think chains would help much in your case. As for weights you can go with some wheel weights if you can find them or some other type of weights but you do not want the weights on the 3 point arms in any way because they will also be pushing down on the plow so that would defeat your propose

Dave-
I would not add the pie weights to an 8N -not made to handle them. I'd consider adding Beet Jucie (Rim Guard) or other ballast to the rear tires for added weight. Pie weights were not around until the Hundred Series Model and the 600/800 Operator's manual specifically says not to use the HD weights on a 600 tractor so I'd venture to guess an 8N is out of the question. I use 25/26 gallons of Beet Juice in my rears and that equals about 275 pounds per tire. Pie weights in two sizes 30# and 45# would add at least 400# per tire including back plate and bolts.

Guess you did not read his other post from a day or so ago. This post is a follow up to it and he has fluid in the tires but still having plowing problem due to where he is plowing

As Jim says below, since you already have loaded tires, best addition for better traction would be a pair of double ring or other aggressive chains that will not disappear down between the treads.

I saw where a couple of the tire suppliers arent reccomending rim guard any more! thought it was the answer to a maidens prayer.
