9N Overhaul

I have an eye on a 46 9N that is in good shape except it seems to have a lot of blow by and some crankcase noise. Lots of white oil smoke out the breather.

What's a ball park on a rebuild for one of these dollar wise? I might still be interested in it if I can buy it right and the overhaul isn't to bad.

For starters '46 would make it a 2N, that being said, a proper engine rebuild can run from $750 - $1,000 (or more -mission creep). HTH

Had my 8N switched over from a front mount to a side mount All parts and labor (including rebuilding the engine) was $1200. That includes changing out the little drive shaft tube which was bad. I think I got a pretty good deal. I've heard Horror stories from some other people here Best to alway do it your self if you can.

You can re-sleeve it (new sleeves, pistons, and rings) for $250. It isn't a rebuild but it should fix blow by issues.

Wonder what labor would run down here in Southern Indiana.

No experience with tractor engines myself, done plenty of small blck chevies but totally un familiar with Ag engines

The Ford L-Head is little more than 4 B&S lawnmower engines joined at the hip. Removable steel cylinder liners so you can renew the cylinder bore without boring the block.

If you can do a small block Chevy, you can certainly rebuild this little flathead.
