Forum Members, Have read through the FO-4 manual on steering adjustments. The last time I saw backlash was on a Zebco fishing reel in northern Minnesota 50 years ago:) Before doing anything, maybe the forum can tell me if I am headed in the right direction. The symptoms are when pushing a lot of snow with a 7 foot scoop and half tracks the front wheels seem to lift slightly and wobble at least an inch side to side. They are loose and there seems to be play in the steering wheel. What is the shortest and best method to cure the problem? Any thoughts are welcome! Mr. T. Minnesota |

| I think you have an 8N but we'll need to know if you have the early style steering box or the later one. Also, I'm not sure what you mean by a 7' scoop. Is the scoop mounted in front or back? Generally though, loose or wobbly front tires are caused by one or more of the following: Worn tie rod ends, Steering box out of adjustment, Improper toe in Worn spindle bushings. Even things like loose balls in the radius rod caps, badly bent radius rods and or a worn out center axle bushing can cause them to wobble or feel loose. |

| Also check first for loose or worn wheel bearings. |

| Ultra, Should have noted it is an early model 8N. I believe it is either a '47 or '48. The seven foot scoop is a front mount that fits Deerborn lift arms. It was ideal with this last wet snow we had in central Minnesota. Between the half tracks and the a full scoop of wet snow, it put the 8N to task. Glad you noted the possibilities with the front end. Will check that over too. Any other thoughts are welcome. Mr. T. Minnesota |
