OT --Best place

All depends on what pistol you want to buy and if you want a paper trail or if you want it the be one that the gov can not know you have. Been to many years since I lived in MS so can only tell you what I know of this area. Pawn shops or other such places sell used ones or maybe there is a gun shop in your area. Or even a gun show which can be a good place to buy a gun. There is a swap meet sort of thing in this area 3 times a year and it is a very good place to find most any thing you want including firearms

(quoted from post at 16:24:33 12/09/12) To buy small pistol.

I bought a High Point .45 auto from a pawn shop . After I got it home I found that every other bullet jambed and the least bit of grease or oil on your fingers would make gripping the slide to chamber a round next to impossible .

After I sold it , a friend told me you can send High Point's back to the factory for a free rebuild . I have not verified this though .

If you buy a used gun , get any warranty in writing .

Also , once you purchase a gun from Wally World , you can not return it for any reason , no refund what so ever . If it is defective you can send it to the manufacture for warranty .

Thanks for the info Went to the local Pawn shop yesterday and it was closed--places have weird hours-seems to be so the working man can"t catch em open....

Do not know if it like it is here but local gun shops seem to be opening up in many places. In just the last year or 2 at least 2 new ones have open in my area and one sells reloading supplies which is very nice since I reload a good number of rounds. Also since John is now at home he seems to enjoy helping me reload and we have done a few hundred rounds in the last month or so. Found a hand gun that if I had the $420 for I would buy since it uses the same ammo as the M-1 carbine I have uses

That does look like a good site, I have the opposite problem- a pistol I want to sell.
Too far away for Tom though.

Would that handgun be a Ruger Blackhawk .30 cal? If that's what you're talking about, they are good guns but very very loud.

Hey Tom...........

Had a REAL GERMAN LUGAR 9mm once. I thought I found a GEM. Souvenier of WWII from OLD brother-in-law.

Showed the pistol to my ex-father-in-law, a real gunsmith, Kentucky Rifle Guy.

He said: The Barrel is TOO THIN for the bore.

This type of pistol was to be used only sparingly.

I traded the weapon for a simple .22 with thick barrel.

John,PA Stick with local gunsmith.

That's kind of a catch all question. What info you really should give is what you are looking for. Caliber? Semi auto? Revolver? Double action? Single action? What do you intend on using it for?

When asking for advice on a gun or even locating one all that info would be most helpful.

You traded a German Luger for a .22? Man someone really saw you coming. Next time you're in a gun shop try pricing a Luger, if you can find one.

I did not look at it all that close after I saw the price tag knowing I could not afford to buy it but yes maybe. Of course it would be a lot less gun then my 44mag is

I have always wanted a German Luger but they are pricey. Know of one not far from me but at $1875 I sure as heck can not buy it, but it is also in very good shape

If you had looked you would have seen I had posted that site already a hour or more before you did

Ah so you want a as John would call it a Pi$$ off gun as in you shoot some one and you best be close and not want to do much more then make them mad. Got one of them small pistols right here sitting on top of the computer it is a 5 shot 22 short. The 380 can also be hard to find ammo for or at least in this area it is

You can buy new and used handguns through Gunbroker.com or new through many online dealers. A good one is Bud's guns. They offer free shipping to a FFl of your choice. Nearly all pawn shops are FL dealers and will do transfers for $15.00-#25.00.

Another good online auction is Auction Arms. Gunbroker has a list of FFLs in your area.

I try to buy mine in McDonald's or WalMart parking lots. :D

I can think of very few places you would need a .44 mag. If you were in grizzly country it would be a good side arm.

Most of the time is just depends on how good you are with a gun. A .22 will kill a person just as dead as a .44 mag and a whole lot cleaner. Lot's of people will buy a hand cannon like a .44 mag but they can't really control it or hit anything with it. They just like that feeling of power. Besides most people can't afford to shoot one unless they reload.

I do have a .44 mag Vaquero but I usually shoot .44 specials in it. Same with my .357's. For plinking and target shooting I shoot .38 specials. Being over 65, I just don't have the need for them big wrist busters any more.

The younger crowd seems to get their jollies shooting those hand cannons, as far as I'm concerned they can have them.

I have about a dozen handguns. Only one of them is a semi auto and that's just for self defense. It's a Beretta 92FS. The rest of them are single actions. I like shooting single actions better than the semi autos. I don't need to stand there spraying out lead like I'm cranking a vegamatic. Each to his own.

This 44mag I have is well balanced and is not you run of the mill 44mag. I will not post the serial number on a public forum like this but lets just say your not likely to ever see a gun of any brand or make with this low a number. It is a 6 shooter single action and I use it for deer hunting and have taken more then one with it over the years. I also have another less common hand gun. It is a Tokarev M1930. Year made is 1941 and it to has a fairly low serial number at under #600. Then I also have this little 22 short 6 shooter Rohm is the brand on it. But I do collect firearms and reload lot also

I do not know if you can order on line but you sure can look at what they have on line. My self I do not like to order stuff that I can not handle and look at since one never knows what your getting unless you can see it and hold it and even then you are never 100% sure

(quoted from post at 00:40:36 12/10/12) Can you guys actually order online ??

You can order firearms online and have the gun shipped to a federally licensed dealer who will charge you a fee for the ensuing paper work and back ground check to transfer it to you. Thats how it works in MI, dunno if thats how it goes in all 50.

I've never done it myself, I stick with the local dealers.

I know how I got a bad deal.

In the 60's....... DELAWARE came up with some "Police-State" laws.

If that Lugar was not State licensed I could have been in jail, just for possessing such a weapon. I figgered to keep my job I had better simply trade it for one of my ex-father in law's.

So, since the Lugar was free to start with, I made a good deal. I still have the 22.

John

Shouldn't have since I double checked the address when I did so but then you never know where something may take you on the net

Old, you put up the wrong address.

Still a little curious about your .44 mag. Is it a Ruger? Super Blackhawk maybe?

budsgunshop.com GOOD prices, no sales tax, free shipping. Call them. order the gun, give them your FFL's info (he may already be on file with them). Last time I ordered I had the gun in 2 days.
