new tool?

Has anyone here used one of the new Kobalt(Lowes) 3/8 inch "double-drive" wrenches? I looked at them and was impressed but did not buy.At $30.00 not to bad of a price. I wonder if they will hold up to heavy use.

I have been buying A LOT Of kobalt stuff here lately - I bought a car jack, 2 ton unit about 7 years ago, died 3 years later, never gave it a second thought. Last year went in to get a few tape measures for school shop classes, talking to the salesman - he told me that ALL kobalt stuff is lifetime! Went back got the jack and got a brand new one - no hassle, no problems. I have had two tape measures break - kids broke them by accident, gave me two knew ones!
I bought the double acting screwdriver last year, 20 bucks, excellent tool - as you twist, screws tighten on the cw and ccw stroke, just like this ratchet! I bought ten sets of their small ratchets - 20 bucks on sale.
I would buy it before it goes away - if it ever breaks, a new one will be in your hands quickly. just my 2 cents

Sears - Craftsman used to do the same replacement deal --NOT ANY MORE !! I think they are going down the tube .

I was in Lowe"s the other day and looked at them. Looked kinda cheap. I didn"t know about the warranty, though. Might have to rethink my decision and get the ratchet set and screwdrivers.
I"m usually leery of stuff like this.
Remember the old craftsman ratchet wrenches. OK to run nuts on or off with but you"d better use something a little more substantial to loosen or tighten them with or you"d bust a wrench. I finally gave the whole set up in a yard sale.

I bought about 6 tape measures, craftsman, couple of years ago - had four break over time, lady at sears gave me the story that they WERE NOT covered under the warranty - I looked her in the eye and said that "That was the only reason I bought them!" She repleced two of them, last time I was in sears to buy a tool.

I wouldn't Judge Sears or Craftsman by one employee. I had a heck of a time getting Home Depot to replace one of their Husky Liftime Warranty Tools. They claim to not know of the warranty until I showed them the packaing on their shelf. Then they thought I should contact Hucky until I showed them it was Home Depot!

I just posted about one of those a couple of weeks ago. I like it - especially that it has the lifetime warranty. I tend to break tools. Especially ratchets when I reach for the cheater.

The only thing I don't like it that it is harder to turn the handle than I thought. It doesn't feel like it, but it is next to impossible to turn the handle one handed. If you are holding a box end on the other side of the bolt you best plan on using it regular ratchet style. I haven't tried it use a cheater on it (yet) but that might be an issue due to the thick plastic handle.

Overall it gets a good review from me. Mine was 19.00 at lowes about three weeks ago.

Yes, Craftsman still has a lifetime warranty.
I took a ratchet back to them a few months ago.
They dug through a box of "rebuilt" ones to see if they had one like it.
That's what you get as a replacement if they have it.
Luckily, they didn't have a "rebuilt" one like mine so they had to give me a new one.
Lifelong friend of mine is a heavy equipment mechanic by trade.
His cheap tools, the ones he'll actually loan out, are Craftsman.

I just brought back a 25' Craftsman tape measure and found out they're no longer made. They did let me pick a free replacement though so I went with the 30' Stanley Fat Max. The cashier didn't blink - said "We're asking you to give up your lifetime warranty so pick what you want".

I have a Craftsman vise from the 80's. Have broken it three times. Sears refuses to warrant it claiming that vises aren't covered under their lifetime warranty. Last time it broke it was taken out of service. I also have a set of screwdrivers from them. Absolute garbage. The tips are soft and brake fluid softens the handles and makes them all sticky and gooey. Junk. Our local Sears has been closed and gone for a couple of years now, but they do have a couple of those little paint and hardware stores around. Never been in one.

You are in Amherst NH? Go to the Lowes in Salem. My son is an Assistant Store Manager there. and they are doing a lot better now.
