Yes, to all you said. I can only add that "paint thinner" is the generic name for enamel reducer. To a painter, "thinner" means lacquer thinner, unless further defined. I once told a friend to use paint thinner for tar removal on the lower parts of his car with original factory paint. His wife wouldn't let him.
As far as I know original factory paint would stand up to even lacquer thinner. Of course, I would not recommend that.
