9N/8N Sherman

(quoted from post at 11:56:12 11/25/12) I will fit just fine unless it has a very rare straight cut gear. For more info see John Smith's web site.

And if it does have the straight cut spur gear input shaft it is a rarity that you can likely sell for a premium to some one that needs it. Use the proceeds to buy one with the helical input gear for your 8N and pocket the difference.

Yes, it will fit. If it is a step-up/step-down combination there are no worries about it having the wrong gear. They never made any of those with straight cut spur gears.

That's intertesting. Can the spur gear input shaft be installed in a combo unit for use in an older 9N? Or is it simpler to swap the transmission as well?

The input shafts for the step-up and the combination are not interchangeable. Original installation instructions for both the step-up and the combination state that if you have an early 9N with spur gears you must replace the 9N7113 gear in the tractor's transmission with a 2N7113 helical gear before installing the Sherman. That's the only change required.
