Proper Grounding

You folks keep answering my questions and helping me solve my problems - and I'll keep posting.

Soooooo. I've cleaned up the terminal block on the 8n (rust on screws(bolts), saturated with PB and removed the ignition switch wires. (Color coated JMOR, so I know where to put 'em back). Jumper wire from/to the two points on the terminal block - and tractor starts and runs fine. Oops, 52 8N.

However, does this prove that the switch is bad? Could it be something else...........?

Now, a broader question. Which items in the electrical circuit must be grounded (bare metal to bare metal or grounded to a wire and the wire grounded to bare metal)?

1. Starter motor - yes
2. Lights - yes
3. Generator - ????
4. Ignition switch - ???
5. Voltage regulator - ???

Other circuit items???

Thanks.

nly one in your list that needs no ground is #4-ign sw.
Either the switch or the 2 wires connecting sw to terminal block...that is ALL that there is between those two terminals to provide power path to the coil.

Thanks, JMOR.

Left out a couple of items for the grounding question. Do the "metal cases" of these need to be grounded (firmly attached) to bare metal in order to function properly?

1. Ammeter?
2. Light SWITCH?
