DavidJB,The early 2Ns did not have an oil line from the filter return to the rear of the governor. They were lubed by splash from the timing gears and crank oil slinger. My 43 has ran since new with no governor problems.Years ago it ran 60 hours a week in spring and summer months.

Makes me wonder why they started putting oil lines on later versions. Yours did well for years but old Henry was reputed to be cheap. There must have been problems with them running dry. Any thoughts?

David,I think the line was added sometime in 1945.It went from the bottom of the oil filter around the front of the engine and hooked to the back side of the governor.I think that some had governor wear so they added the oil line,Mine has a nova or novi brand governor on it.

Thanks Den, I think I"ll take that old one apart and look for flat balls or other signs of wear. If I find any then maybe I"ll retrofit a line. Otherwise, if it ain"t broke. . .
