just got an 8n front dist. model that had been sitting a few years.no spark so, i replaced coil and points and now i have spark.good compression but, it will start if i heavily choke it and it runs good for just a few seconds approx.(3-5) then cuts off.i cleaned carb and replaced needle and seat twice.i believe its a fuel issue but, don't know how to fix.i have some experience with these old fords but,i am not a professional.please give some professional advise. |

| i have good fuel flow i even hooked up an external tank and placed in above the tractor.it will run longer if i give it a little ether squirt so, i feel sure its a fuel issue.i have not had time to mess with it today but, i think im going to take it back apart and clean again.i think i will also check for an air leak. |

| Quoting Removed, click Modern View to seeWhile I am a strong proponent of diagnosing the problem to at least an area (i.e., ign/fuel) before I begin working either, I'll concede at least looking at flow out of bottom of carb bowl and lifting a plug wire to observe spark.

OK this may be too obvious but are you getting fuel from the tank to the Carb??Also do ya have enough fuel in it for it to PU? |

| Quoting Removed, click Modern View to seeThere are at least a dozen passages in the carb castings, several with hole sizes that are much smaller than the smallest jet size, so.........most people just "think" that they have cleaned their carb. Just food for thought. You probably need to narrow the field, by trying to see if you can keep it running longer on ether or propane. If the answer is yes, then you can forget ignition & focus on fuel. |
