I am rebuilding the engine on a 48 8N converted to 12 volts.
The nuts holding the bearing caps on the rods have fine slots cut in them, are turned down a little on the diameter, and have a little notch cut on the turned down portion. There were no clips, locks etc on them when I took them off.
Is there suposed to be some kind of lock on them ?
Are they reusable or should they be replaced ?
If they are reusable, should the turned down portion be squeezed a little before use ?
Would it be a good idea to use some medium strength locktite on them during reassembly ?
Thank You for any help or suggestions.
