ROD BEARING ORENTATION

I've seen this subject discussed several times lately about the orentation of the connecting rods on the N engine.

I have always said that the rod bearing locking tabs go to the left side (clutch pedal side) of the engine. Others have said that they go towards the cam shaft. They do not go toward the cam shaft. The cam shaft is on the right side of the engine.

I just today tore down a 9N and the tabs are to the left just as I stated.

This has been how I have found them for the past 50 years.

I am rebuilding a 1948 8N. The tabs are on the left hand side just like you said. It is the same for both the main and rod bearings. Hope this helps.
