So we have now completed... rewire, new battery, new plugs, hooked up lights, distributor kit, new exhaust. Tractor runs, runs pretty good however still seems to be little rough. Have adjusted dist. ever so slightly back and forth until runs best where set. Also when running at high rpms puts out blue smoke like a banchi..Could this be the "BAD" gas that we are burning. Also neighbor has ordered electonic ignition for this. any thoughts on this?? The only other thing after all this would be the carb needing cleaned after gas setting in her for a year or two. Again thanks for all the help here as Ive learned alot about this little tractor. Pretty simple really.

Yes they are amazing and amazingly simple. Blue smoke sounds like oil vs rich mixture (black smoke). Rings could be worn or stuck. I would soak the cylinders a few days with ATF or MM Oil and try again. It will smoke like crazy until that is burned out. Electronic ignition does not work real well with front mount distributors and 6 volt. Works better with 12 volt conversion. Will not improve the smoking.

mss3020.........NO ELECTRONIC ignition for 6-volt frontmount dizzy. Hazzta be 12V and still ain't that great. You can replace the points fer $20 (cheap) every year on the kitchen table fer 7-yrs fer the cost ($150) of problematical electronic ignition fer the weird 4-nipple front mount. The 5-nipple sidemount dizzy is a different story.

I am NOT anti-electronic ignition. I hand built one for my 1956 Dodge D-500 HEMI in 1963. I had problems keeping the 4-barrel carb running. The sparkies would snap the blue-snot outta you. My 1969 BMW 2002 with semi-race 7000-rpm engine has electronic ignition. My 1976 MGB sportscar used to have MG's version of electronic ignition. Guess what it has NOW? Regular points. ........pointless Dell

the ei won't help the blue smoke.

it's likely oil control rings.. look at the plugs to see if it is pumping.

if using ei.. do yourself a favor and go to 12vneg grnd first.. and get it running good that way.. then convert.
