Sorry to start a new thread for this but have not been able to get any replies from previous post.
I'm trying to get my tractor back together. I'm installing a new fan and water pump. There is a back plate with an off set 'ear' that was already on the tractor and a new one came with the new pump. I don't see any need for this back plate since I have an alternator that does not require this plate to mount. Does this plate serve any purpose other than to mount an old generator? If I don't use the plate, I will have an extra eighth inch clearance between the fan blades and the radiator overflow tube. right now the blades are barely rubbing the tube.
If I don't use the plate, I just use a regular "smiley face" gasket between the pump and block?
Getting an answer to this one question has been holding me up. I can't find a single reference to this on Google, other than a listing for the part.
Thanks!
Ken
