1948 8n Stay bar connections

Gentlemen, I would like to put stay bars on my 8N but I am not sure where they attach on the upper link. Do they connect to the 3/4 inch pin on the upper link section or do they connect directly to the axel housing? If they connect to the upper link section that connects to the spring wouldn't have some effect on the hydraulics?

When you use the stay bars, they are to hold the 3 point down and if you try to use the hyd, the stay bars will bend, don't ask how i know. Now i disengage the PTO when I have the stay bars installed.

Stay bars prevent the three point from raising -
helpful when towing a trailer. Sway bars keep the
three point hitch from swaying from side to side.
The sway bars attach from the lower arms to special
brackets under the axle housing. Sway bars do not
prevent the three point from lifting.

Sway bars or stay bars 2 different things. Sway bars are used to keep a back blade etc foam swinging side to side and the other is to keep the 3 point from coming up if your say using a trailer behind the tractor. Sway bars hook under the axle and stay bars hook up at the center link hook up. So which are you asking about

I use a 9N on a PTO powered manure spreader so I have stay bars on but have to have the PTO engaged at least part of the time. Bend those stay bars once and you won't forget to keep your hands off the lift control the next time (don't ask me how I know)!

You cannot bend the stay bars if they are put on correctly. Refer to the exellent picture. Note the light chain going over the axle. The clip on the upper end attaches under the wingnut and locks the lever down. Get into the habit of doing things right,it prevents headaches down the road.
The stay bars don't keep the drawbar from raising the clip does. Please do it right! Clayt

Well, yes, sort of..........big bump, heavy trailer, and the lifting force of tongue will make pretzels of stay bars. They do a better job of holding draw bar up than they do of preventing it from rising, for sure.
