8N engine bearings

sometime previously this engine has had the crank done and new bearings, the crank still measures very close to specs and bearings have max of 3.5 thou clearance, but there are small specks of steel imbedded in the bearings, should I change them or not worry about that?

Probably work OK but now is the time to put in new ones. Got to some wear on the bearing.

Be sure to check out the oil pump wear closely while in there. That is really important for good oil pressure.

Change the bearings!! Where is the metal coming from? Debris like that will make short work of a crankshaft and bearings.

You might think about taking the crank to a machine shop for a more accurate 'reading' and might get away with a simple polish and use new (same sized) brgs. Done it in the past, works well. HTH

If you suspect the metal was from the previously machined crank, the installer was very sloppy. Installers are always required to clean machined components. If the crank is out look for more metal to clean and check all mains and rods. Needless to say replace all bearings. If it's not from the previous repair you need to find the reason before reassembly. Gerard

i would not even considder not chaig out bearings that had metal embedde din them.

as others said. check it all out now while it still may be salvageable..
