OT Hurricane Sandy

I'm a few miles NE of Richmond, just on the southern edge of the high wind warning area. So far, about an inch of rain & wind gusting to 30-35 mph. Supposed to get worse as the day goes on. I figure to lose power this afternoon or evening. All the tractors are inside, the generator & chain saw work & I've got plenty of beer & dog food. Looks like it's going to be really bad north of here.

Bruce not too far from you in the northern part of the Shenandoah Valley. Winds are headed here suppose to hit late afternoon. Been raining last 24hrs but just light. Stay safe there and lets hope for the best.
PS got the beer and backup heat etc. Gonna ride her out.

Ya that is one reason I am happy to live out here in Missouri. Bet the Navy has as many of the ships as they can out to sea right now. I still remember back when I was in the navy any time they had storm warnings like your having now all ships that could go to sea left the ports as fast as they could

Im just sw of Dover DE so far about 4" of rain and the winds are getting worse all the time. just saw on the news sandy is strengthing and is now going to hit into the Delaware bay area and then cross through the dover area. I to still have power but am sure to loose it soon. have genny for later when everything passes and rains quit but for now can only ride it out with family. have stocked up supplies and camping equipment. prepaired for worst and hopeing for best. good luck to all.

Good Luck to you guys up there from where the hurricanes usually pass through. We only had rain and medium winds, just branches down, no trees in this area. Coastal flooding but nothing like where the strike area will be, and especially north of the landfall location. We're still getting light rain and winds, and a friend in the NC mountains reports light snow; the span of this storm is beyond the pale, must be over 1,000 miles. Time will heal it, but it's going to be some rough days from coastal Va to Mass.

Up here near Gettysburg, PA it has been raining all morning (guessing 2" or so). Ground is already saturated can see ponding in my pasture out my window. Expect when the wind picks up later this afternoon and overnight trees will go over taking the rootball and all soft as the ground is. Am as prepared as I can be, but was holding out hope until a little bit ago that this beast would skirt off to the North and miss most of us.

Wish all of you well,

Kirk

WX report from VJI airport in Southwest Virginia is rain/snow mix with tonight and tomorrow to be worse. Working in the shop today and hope everything is squared away as far as generator, and a little bit of extra food. All vehicles are topped off as is the propane.

good luck and hope you and yours stay safe and dry. jim is right it is a huge storm, i'm in eastern tn and we're getting lots wind and rain from it. very gusty right now not sustained but tonight is supposed to get worse. stay safe and let us know you're ok!

Yeah, the ANG flies a lot of their fixed wing stuff west to the Knoxville airport. Cheaper to move the planes and put the crews up for the week than deal with the damage.

All the best to those that may be affected. The storm has taken over on our local news and we had a significant earthquake off the Queen Charlotte Islands - can't seem to get any news about it, just 'Sandy'. There was some fuss about a Tsunami hitting Hawaii, but NO local stuff. Weird.

Bruce, in the heart of southwest Virginia --rain and snow mix all day, 1" of snow on the ground, snowing now, 33 deg. Expect 4 to 6" up to 26" in highest elev. Nice closeout for Oct. Is this a preview to winter?

They put out a warning, but it didn't amount to anything but a few inches when the first wave hit, so they retracted the warning.

Bruce just North of you in Stafford VA just moderate rain today and some strong wind gust.
Never lost power and usually don't I live close to both sub stations.
Odd to see the wind blowing South to North almost always the opposite way I am sure I will loose some trees in the back of the property but nothing to worry about.
Stay safe all God Bless

Midnight Monday/Tuesday here southeast of Lake Ontario wind about 10-15 MPH bout 1/2" rain so far. They WERE calling for up to 4" rain. A few branches in road on drive home at 11PM but nothing lil toyota couldnt drive over

If you were a FAC in V-N, you will recognize what this is!

But, maybe not; it's from a different angle than pilots were familiar with!

We dodged the bullet here in central VA. 3 inches of rain & wind didn't gust above 40 mph. No trees down, no limbs down & didn't even lose power.

Light drizzle, 40* & breezy as we speak.

Looks like New England, NJ & NYC got it bad.
