If you were completely rebuilding the engine on your 48 8n. would you replace the cam shaft and lifters if they looked to be in good condition?

No. I don't think cams wear much on these slow turning engines w/o rocker arms, if properly maintained, clean oil, correct weight etc.

TOH, It would be possable to do that at the machine shop I worked for years ago and it is local. thats where I intend to take the block to be cooked, crank turned, and have valve seats cut.

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see

I did on my 9N because I was shooting for a "remanufactured" engine. At the time a reground cam was $120 and adjustable lifters were $4 each. I see this site currently wants $21 EACH for new lifters. At that price I'd get a quote on havig the old cam and lifters reground by a local machine shop.

TOH

Thanks JMOR, just doing a cost estimate for me and a friend at the momment and wondering if it was a high wear item and liklyhood of needing replaced. my tractor is running fine other than very low oil pressure (7or8 psi hot at 1500). but my freinds has had low oil pressure for years and is now developing a what sounds to be a rod knock. and will need to be pulled down this fall. mine will probably get done next year.
