Anyone ever used this oil--had never heard of it till Yesterday--under the hood of the Hyundai I bought a few months ago it says they recommend Shell Helix or some kind of Quaker state..Don"t plan to put QS in anything I ever own..I guess they will put whatever they want to since I guess I have to take it to them for service to keep the 10 yr 100,000 mile warranty in effect.

It really won't matter if it's Shell or Quaker State...they are both bottled by SOPUS products. Penzoil, Quaker State, and Shell are all manufactured and distributed by them. I used to work in auto parts and people would cuss Quaker State and rave about Penzoil and I would just laugh cause it was all the same.

Thanks for the info Jason. Yrs ago QS was said to be "not as good" as some other oils-- I"m sure they are all equal now. Maybe QS was always good. Really don"t matter what they put in it as long as it lives up to the warranty.

Shell Helix Ultra (SAE 5W40 and 5W30) is a high end fully synthetic motor oil recommended by many European OEM's including MB, VW, Porsch, Ferrari and BMW. Probably not very easy to find in the US. Mobil 1 or similar is probably a close domestic equivalent.

Edit: It seems Quaker State Q-Horsepower is the exact same oil rebranded for sale in the USA. The SAE 5W30 will run you about $5/qt at Walmart.

I can't answer your question about the oil, but I'm pretty sure they can't require you to use their product as a condition of the warranty unless they give it to you free. Seems like that was a Supreme Court case. But, I do have CRS.......

Yes I believe that was part of the magnuson-moss act. Its the same thing with oil filters...unless they provide them they can not make you use a specific brand. You can use whatever you prefer as long as it meets manufacturers requirements....and most brands do.

What I plan to find out is, do I have to take it to them for the oil changes..Two different dealers said Oh, on the first service at 7500 miles it will just be an oil change..closest one is 55 miles away and the one I plan to use is 95 miles away..never had paid for an oil change until a year or so ago. I took my 2010 Sierra in for it's first service--$42 for oil change and tire rotation...as I have gotten old and achy, it is well worth the money for someone else to do it----But they are not as unhandy to get to them for service..they will come where I work and get my truck and leave another vehicle for me. Had it to do over would not buy Hyundai and I'm 100% sure I would not deal with the dealership where I bought it ever again..

You are not required to take your vehicle to a dealer for recommended services in order to protect warranty coverage. Indeed, you can do your own services, as I do, but you do need to keep records.

I certainly do not recommend ANY of the quick change places.
