Can an 8N run a JD 506(5 foot) bush hog?

Just picked up a '51 8N today and curious if a 5 foot bush hog would be too much for the machine. Engine and clutch are fresh. Thanks in advance for your opinions.

I'm not familiar with that model mower so I don't know if it's 3 pt
or pull type, but 5 ft is what is recommended with an 8N.
It it needs to have an over running coupler on the PTO shaft
to be safe since an 8N doesn't have live PTO.
You may also need to adapt the 1 1/8 PTO shaft to 1 3/8 for that mower, which
the ORC can do for you at the same time.

Alright then, Just went to Bush Hog's website and they recommended minimum 20HP to run their 5 footer. Yes, it is a 3 point.

The Missus bought the tractor (a 1951) the other day and I still have not seen it as I am at sea now.

I am familiar with ORC's and have been researching a supplier. Just not sure what size to purchase yet.

Thanks again for your time.

I have a 1948 8N front mount distributor converted to 12 volts. I have used a five foot King Cutter bush hog behind it for about three years now. The 8N handles it fine even in very heavy growth. By the way the tractor is tired and will get a rebuild this winter. Still works just fine except for the oil used and the smoke !
Hope this helps.
Thank You !

Excellent and thanks for the information. I am anxious to give this thing a whirl in a few weeks.
Am planning an immediate electronic ignition upgrade and 12 volt conversion if it has not yet been done.

Not planning on any restoration. Will just get the unit up to tip top condition and run it for another 30 years.

i wore out a 5 ftjd mower behind one ,rebuilt it ,and its wore out again.dont recall the model though. those old john deeres are good mowers, seem to be able to cut closer to the ground than some others.

my 8n pulled a 5' howse behind it for years... even in 7' weeds in 1st gear and max throttle standing on the running baords trying to see.. stopping every half hour to clean the layer of felt/chaff off the radiator!!

it's a great 2 plow ( 12/14 / 5' rough, 6' finish mower.. and 6.5' dual l3pt disc.. or 8' pull disc... machine

I like the sound of this more and more...surely can't wait to see the tractor and see if it is side or front mount distributor.
Maybe if'n I can git the Missus to take some photos....

Thank you for the input, gentlemen.
