** UPDATE**

Another contractor we do business with was approached to buy a service trailer. he was given an address to go look at it.. recognized it as ours.. calle dthe cops, and we were able to recover it. unfortunately perp has not been caught.. as far as we can tell, all is intact.

only things missing are tag and they pulled the fuel plaque off the tank.

With the information that they have they should have one would think that they should be able to get the slime ball. I had a trailer stolen once but it wasn't at my home place and the interval over which it could have been taken was four months or better so the trail was cold.

Glad to hear it! Incidents like this are on the rise here as well.
A local smalltime logger had engine trouble with his JD 550 dozer and tore it down in the woods. Everything that wasn't too heavy to lift and carry ended up down at the local scrap yard.
They got the perp and recovered everything with the help of a security camera at the salvage yard.

Glad you got it back!

Really wouldn't matter if they catch the guy. It isn't murder or drugs so only thing they would do to him is a slap on the wrist, fine and out the door. They know it, and the slime ball knows it. he will right back at it the next day.

due to value it will be grand theft and will be felony tresspassing on a construction site.

might get a couple year sentence.. though actual jail time might be very, very low...

It is getting to the point that anything metal is targeted. I had a old rusy blade from a road grader that was buried as part of my fence. Wife happened to notice too large of a gap between t-posts and I know right off that I had the old blade in to help strengthen that part of the fence. I need to take note to not put any pipe or heavy objects in the fence unless it is welded and preferrably welded and set in concrete from now on. I read in local paper that they are taking steel gates where they are easily removed.

Were you lucky enough to get your fuel or some of the fuel back too? These scumbags who do these acts should have a few fingers broken off , not just broken. Glad you got it back.

Soundguy,
What kind of steps are you going to take to make it harder for someone to steal? Chains and pad locks don't stand up to bolt cutters. Realize that nothing is 100% theft proof.

Hope they catch the low lifes. Bet the cops are looking real hard to find them too.

it's being taken back tot he shop yard each night, and in the yard we will ball lock it.

won't prevent a theft.. might slow em a bit.

AFAIK, we got everything back except the license plate and the diesel plaque sticker they peeled off the tank.

so we took a 35$ hit on lost plate fee and sticker.. plus some days of looking and lost time / whatnot.

The wife said some young guys came to the door looking for old farm machinery for scrap. We had the guy we bought the place from take it all away years ago (old feeders, a JD combine turned on its side w/ no wheels, and general junk). Have half expected they were casing the joint and expected them to come back to steal tools, a tractor or my utility vehicle (although that would be little loss after ins. payment!). So far nothing. Drug problems are rampant in our county and it's not the highest income area either. Still lots of people struggling in this economic "recovery".

we've had that happen.

have a guy show up to scrap.. tell him know.. have him come back days later when secretary was there alone telling her he was told to load up X etc.
