OLD...So What Causes This Clutch To Stick Like This?

So far I have tried the brick treatment of holding down the clutch pedal...no luck yet unsticking it. Thinking to pull the starter sometime next week when I understand better about 'Pulling The Starter - from 50 tips'. What exactly causes the clutch to stick together? This tractor sat for 5 years B4 I found it. Clutch worked fine when I got it running. It only sat for about a year here B4 this happened.

Many things can cause that problem. If the oil drain plug in the bottom of the bell housing is clogged up and oil has built up inside that can cause it as can water building up and causing rust. Look for the cotter pin in the bottom of the bell housing and make sure it is there and loose. As for pulling the starter yes that can be fun and not in a good way. You have to loosen both bolts and when you can wiggle it out some you stick a nut on the bolt to the most out side so you keep the starter from pulling apart then turn and pull and get the 2nd nut on. I have seen them get so stuck you had to split the tractor to fix them

Long term storage without blocking the clutch pedal down often causes the clutch facing to sieze to the flywheel and pressure plate surfaces due to corrosion.

You will need to pop it free. blocking the clutch pedal down can prevent siezing but will not solve the problem.

Try operating the tractor in a higher gear under HEAVY load with the clutch pedal depressed.

Alternatively, try towing the tractor on a paved road in the lowest gear with the engine off and the clutch pedal depressed.
