1948 8N. New distributor cap, new plugs and wires. Was starting and running. Sat for about a month. Had to put new battery on it. Checked with multi meter. Got 12 volts to coil. 12 volts though the coil. Pulled the distributor and checked and set points at.022". No spark at the plugs. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Take a clean piece of paper, rotate the engine till the points are closed, put the paper between the points and then with the points closed pull the paper, do that a couple of times, sound like your points are dirty. If that don't work check you grounds in the distributer and make sure you have power to the points. Can test with a light, multi meter or a real simple, turn on ignition and open and close the point, sparks should jump.

Well # 1 you have the points set way way off. Front mount distributor needs the points set at 0.015 as per the manual and that could well be your problem. You can also have a wire off a bit and that is easy to do when installing new points and condenser. Or you may have points with a protective coating the needs cleaned off or them. But to start with set the points at the correct gap then go from there. Shoot even if you had a side mount your have them set wrong for that but you should have a front mount

Well as you say it is a '48' 8N.....it must have a Front Mount distrib???
Then you say...." Pulled the distributor and checked and set points at.022". No spark at the plugs. Any suggestions are appreciated."

I say for you to reset the points to, .015, and try for spark to the plugs with that setting!!!

Front mount distrib. points.. 0.015
side mount distrib. points.. 0.025

Repulled distributor. Yeah. It is in front. With black wire from multimeter to ground and red wire to points. 12 volts. Put red wire to ground. 12 volts. Open points. Down to zero volts. Went ahead and did the paper trick. Got her going even with point gap at .022". Hope that was all it was. Fingers crossed. Spaghetti wiring. Thanks, pros.

CAN YOU NOT READ????????????????????????????????POINTS NEED TO BE SET AT 0.015 get that or your going to keep having problems. Side mount is 0.025 so your not right for either one SET THEM AT 0.015 or your going to keep having problems

Well you did ask for help and when you where told what was wrong you still went and did it your way and still had problems so why ask unless your going to heed what is said. With the points set at 0.022 you would be lucky to get any spark at all and the dwell would be way off to boot

I take insults from no man. The internet makes tuff guys out of any one. You talk to me like that face to face there would be blood. Maybe my blood maybe your blood maybe both our blood. The points were set at .015" when it would not start. I disassembled distributor and cleaned and set points at.022" or close to it. Then it started. I did not know .015" was what it was supposed to be. My point was it will start and run at .022". In the future do not reply to any other of my post unless you can do so without insults. Thanks for the help.

In my first post I did talk to you in a nice way but you let it go in one ear and out the other and did not heed what you where told. I have posted here well over 40,000 post in the years I have been here I have been trying to help people for year and when a person asks for help but then does not do as he was told he needed to then yes I can get irate because it becomes a waste of time to try.
As for Blood well then you have little or not respect for a D.A.V

BY the way I will try and remember your handle and if I do you will NEVER get any help from me again I only tried to help you the first time
