O.T.- Changing jobs in this economy!!

Hey guys! Haven"t been on here recently due to slow dialup and busy otherwise. We"re supposed to be getting wireless broadband in our area sometime in the next month or so, but I"ll believe when I see it! Say a prayer or two for me please as, on Tuesday, I"m starting a new job, leaving where I"ve been for 11 1/2 years! I"ll still be twisting nuts/bolts on trucks/trailers/cars/pickups but in a fleet environment. I was about to go bonkers where I was and found out about this job I"m starting. Won"t pay quite as much per hour but benefits (short/long term) are better. Sounds crazy to be leaving and changing in today"s economy but my sanity was being challenged and my wife/friends/family are all behind me!! Even some of my co-workers are a bit envious, not to mention surprised! I was one of two guys that left there on Friday so they"re down to five techs as of Monday, so I"ve got the old place in my prayers too. Loaded all my tool boxes, etc. yesterday and brought them home. A 5" x10" trailer was about 3/4 full counting my roll cart/steps and other accessories. Y"all have a good weekend and I"ll let you know how it works out!!

good luck to ya

I just changed jobs 2 weeks about after um.. 13ys of employment at that place.

not fun for sure...

again.. good luck!

Good Luck, I changed jobs about 6 weeks ago. After 7 years with the same company hauling Refeer. I was staying out 3 to 4 months and then getting home 4 or 5 days. I now make about the same money working 4 days out of the week.
If your not happy, Some times you just have to take the chance.

Glad to hear there are a few jobs out there.
Good luck to ya. Read something not long ago about job related stress, and its link to early heart attacks. Can't really put a price on piece of mind.

Im a mainframe computer geek, been doing it since 1977. Was told in July that I am a repeatable function, and will train my onshore/offshore replacement. Initially they said end date = Nov 22. Latest propaganda meeting now says end date = Jan 15, 2013. I will get a severance package, provided I play nice. Been here 21 years.

Have fun....don t. ....

In 2003 I left a Dodge dealership as a line mechanic to teach at a college. I loved the change and less stress. After I loaded my box to come home I went over an expansion joint at a highway bridge and my front beauty rims popped off. Good luck.

Sending prayers wishing you the best of luck.
As of the 22nd of this month I have been at my company 15 years. And I am looking to leave also.
Looking for a job with one of the government contractors as a Master Electrician in the facilities department.
Currently the company I work for has quit paying any bonus,s for holding a Security clearance, safety, year end,and also quit paying for us maintain and keeping our Masters licenses they are now up too $90.00 bucks for two years plus $140.00 for the continuing education hours.
Us Sr. Electricians at this company are all fed up with they way we get treated any more.

First off, its a 5' x 10' trailer, always seem to hit the upper case for " somehow!! It isn"t a gov"t job, but a company that raises hogs for Smithfield Foods and I"ll be in their local shop with people I "ve known for years, so hopefully it"ll work out that I can retire from there!! I"ll be 56 in October so I"m looking more now to benefits than ever before. The place I left hasn"t done anything to improve conditions/benefits since "08 and I just can"t see it getting better! Thanks for prayers and outlooks guys! Have a good week!!

All the best to ya ! I just quit a job I've had for 40 years. Wasn't all that hard. I've been self-employed all that time. New rules and regulatione in the Bldg. trade is part of it, getting good help is another and just wore out and losing the 'thrill' is the final. My "massive" gov't pension ALMOST covers my tab at the local beverage dispenser. Health, Peace & Happiness!

I hope it works out well for you Phil, I think it did for me.
I decided to leave a great company last May after 10 years with them.
The new job has less benefits, less pay and no bonuses.
However, its 115 round trip miles a day closer(which makes up for the pay)
way less stress and I don't wake up dreading going to work every day.
Best of luck!

Best of luck! I've had the same job for over thirty years, so I don't have any experience or advice to share.

My sanity is on the edge, too, so I am envious. I'm at the point of being ready to take anything just to get out of here. And I'm the boss!

At least I'm supposed to be. I answer to a volunteer board of directors made up currently of 6 imbeciles who know everything and are sure I'm the idiot. It doesn't matter that I'm the one with 25 years experience in the business and they are all hospital administrators pretending to be financial geniuses.

Oh well...rant off.
