RJ;
Float needle seat size and threds are .......3/8-27NS!!
Make sure to start the tap with your fingers, and make sure the tap is straight in the hole before ya start to cut the threds.
If the tap gets cocked off any little bit....the seat will leak!!!

See ya NEXT time!!! :lol:

(quoted from post at 04:52:02 09/12/12) I would try an extra gasket first.

I think an extra gasket would increase the height of the needle just enough to screw up the geometry of the float height setting.

You are absolutly right......!!!!!!!
Not only that but,...the seat gaskets used together like he suggests, will NOT seal from fuel leaking up through the threds of the seat. (A leak looking for a place to escape)

The problem that RJ, is trying to solve, is....to clean up the threds inside, so that the needle seat can be tightened down, and does NOT have anything to do with the gasket, unless he can get the threds cleaned first!!!

Double gasketing has NO place in any carb application....just makes another possible air/fuel leak!!!

Good to know I am not the only one who believes double gasketing just won't work.

Yes, sometimes the only way to make the parts fit as intended is to re-tap the threads. More often than not, it is the only way to get good, clean threads again.

thanks guys your knowledge is sure helpful.nice to know when you are3 mechanically chalenged there is help out there

Can you prove that an extra or even a thicker gasket wont work.The chances of stripping the casting are great.This is not a pressure joint.If the new seat is longer than the old one its the wrong part.In any case dirt in the gas is the major problem in leaking float valves.The viton tip sticks shut so often I wont use them.The Grose jet can stick open and shut yet the experts are still pushing them.
