1. Went to get new fuel bowl gasket at NAPA - used the number given on 50 tips...was quoted $5 each!!! Is that right? Thought these things were cheap.

2. I have water filled rear tires on my 8N - does the fact that there is water in them change the required air pressure needed? What should I be setting the pressure at?

3. I found that Home Depot has spray paint in a red close to ford red - however, has anyone come across rattle can paint close to light grey needed for hood etc? Now the old gal is running ok want to pretty her up a bit.

As for the paint, your local TSC probably has all implement and tractor colors, but the price is a little more than my liking. For my restore I used all Rustoleum products, Sunrise red on the belly and Almond for the tins. Not an exact match but shes a runner not a show piece.

Ha! funny you say that - I think that is the exact colors I picked up just by eyeballing them - there was another called fossil but was in satin and not gloss looked real close.

They are plannin on putting in a tsc store up here in Placerville in the near future!!! Guess who will be camped out at the front door to be first in and see if I can get any free stuff!!!!

We had one tornado blew it away 4/16/11... I have not missed it one bit I don't need animal feed and not a cowboy .... They did have the best price on T post... Tractor parts (what little they had) are cheap over priced junk.... Its just another chines warehouse...

Got a handfull (6) from my JD dealer of NOS cork gaskets (same bowl & the real deal) for about $.40 each - not too long ago. But with the oldtimers memory loss and all it could be 2 weeks to 12 years. The cork ones are cheap and work perfect. Best of luck. HTH

The NAPA part number for the sediment bowl gasket is 730-9506, but I have stopped using them because NAPA reduced the thickness as Gaspump said. I use TSC part number 0237144. It’s cork, so soak it in gas first.

The "revised" 50 Tips(in the latest issue of N-News) deletes the recommendation to use the NAPA gasket.

A 12" x 12" sheet of 3/32" thick, 50 durometer, Buna-N rubber is $8.50 at McMaster and will make a lifetime supply of high quality sediment bowl gaskets.

Yup, did the same thing. Can't beat the ol' calibrated eyeball.

I think the red is a little bright and the almond too yella. But who can tell at 20 feet or 20 mph. Finishing it up now. I'll try to post a few pics.

Fair price is a buck at most for a gasket you should be able to buy 2 bowls with gaskets for $5, check this site. I stay out of NAPA at all costs they are the most expensive of all parts store in my area. Its fine if you want the NASCAR stuff made in china. The ACE hardware here(Im in a farm community) sells the Ford, JD, IH, ect Implyment paints, they are very good. If you need 1 or more cans make sure the batch #s on bottom of the cans match. They also have a Banner Red paint that is close to the Ford red. Have fun

I've gotten sediment bowl gaskets at both my tractor dealer and TSC. These were cork and both worked well. Don't remember what I paid for them, but it wasn't anyway near $5.00.

Liquid in the rear tires makes no difference to the air pressure required. Put 12# of air in them and tractor on.

As far as paint goes. Rustoleum Light Olive #7755 is what I believe to be a very close match to the gray Ford used. Problem is I think they took it off the market...... can't find it anywhere.

I first posted that NAPA number here on this site many years ago. At that time the gasket was 3/32" thick and very neat and uniform made of superior material too. It is now anywhere from .040 to .065 thick very uneven and just plain junk. It was $.35 and now the sky is the limit. I also have posted here many times before that it is no longer a practical choice but no one can erase all the original info from the net so that outdated data lives on.
