I have an 8n front mount distributer 12v with electronic ignition. It will run fine then miss maybe back fire then will recover and run fine.
It will idle good. I have a feeling that it is electrical. Has normal power under load it will just miss every now and then. I have replaced the usual trying to track it down. plugs, cap, rotor. I am starting to think it is the bushing in the distributer. Any other thoughts.

I don't think these Ns ran perfect 64 years ago, however, had a similar problem and found the PO had use none bradded copper wire. Replaced the plug and coil wire and it ran near perfect thereafter.

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see0.030 magnet assy to EI module is spec, but 0.010 to 0.060 is supposed to be acceptable limits....that allows for a lot of distributor bushing wear. Probably looking in wrong place for the problem at hand.

606,
Had trouble with my 2N starting in humid weather. It was the only time is was difficult to start. Went through everything: points, plugs, carb, new distributor cap and gasket. Finally changed the bushings as Bruce and other forum members had suggested. I knew there was some play, but did not think it was the problem. It now starts and runs like a "new" 65 year old N tractor.
Hope this helps!
Mr. T. Minnesota

I would also check your wiring, you may have an intermittent short. Check the switch too.

the local EI advocate might be along to help you with it.. though probably not. :)

really though.. quit guessing.

it's easy to see if the shaft has play. if no play.. do the regular first test you should have done in the first place.

check spark.

if spark is good.. check fuel.

heck.. I'd do a comp test and maybee pull side valve covers and see if you got a sticking valve...

post back

" I am starting to think it is the bushing in the distributer. "

It could be.

It's easy enough to check.

There are two, front & back.
