Forum members, Right side done "right". Got the long spring attached when finally using the spring tool correctly. The left side will be redone tomorrow. Have a question concerning the left side seals. I have the new seal assembly in place, but wondering about the cork gasket replacement. The existing cork gasket was shriveled and much smaller than original. Is this gasket an integral part of the sealing system? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!! Mr. T. Minnesota |

Not sure what you are talking about :? 8n4284 2"ID X 2-1/4 OD X 1/2" thick slides over the axle B-4 the hub is installed...
8N4225 is the big round one used to seal the seal retainer to the retainer and cup assy....
Either can be left out if good RTV is used to seal the seal retainer to the cup retainer and RTV applied to the axle spline...
Personally I use 8N4284 and leave 8N4225 out and run a good bead of RTV around were it sets in the seal retainer.... If I use 8N4225 I glue it in place.... |

| | The cork seal is designed to prevent the oil seeping through the axle/hub splines. It goes between the outside of the hub behind the big flat washer and the hub retaining nut. Zane |

| Zane, This seal is about three-four inches in diameter and is about 3/8 inch wide and 1/8 inch thick. It seems to fit against the seal assembly. The one you mention must be different. Any further help is appreciated! Mr. T. Minnesota |

| | I have seen a round paper gasket without holes that is supposed to be used between the lip seal and the lip seal retainer. If you buy the seal and retainer together allready assembled that gasket won't be needed. Zane |
