Looking to get a big enough jack to work on my ole" 2N.
Currently have a 2 1/2T "trolley" jack. It feels unsafe do to its compact size.
HF constantly has bottle and floor jacks on sale. (I"m leaning towards the low profile floor as it "might" fit under low-sitting gas mizer I drive everyday if I get floorjack first.) HF @ $130 - NAPA @ $350 for same looking unit.
I realize in time both will be needed. Wondering what y"all might suggest as a first to get.
I have already picked up some blocking as don"t feel safe with jackstands outside in dirt.
Thank You for your input :)

Gonna start with floorjack but NAPA to rich for my wallet & no O"Rielys around here.

We have advance auto that imports just about everything.

However found TOH"s link had something like I am looking for and only $20 more than HF (and no shipping fee?). :D

Use to be their were no cheap tools now everyone can have tools thanks to the chi-cons.... Just be glad the US/local gov did not produce it,,, it would have to sell for so much no working poor man could afford it....

No the dems would fix it so everyone could buy one if they could not give them one then the economy would crash...

I use NAPA floor jacks... the newest one I have brought #791-6420 has lifted every thing I want to work on.... I have brought a dozen over the years and never got any service out of the first imported jacks other than NORCO jacks...

I figger the imports have got better are folks would be put'n them down hard... Even the 791-6420 is imported it weighs over 100 lbs I can get parts to fix it if need B... Its a well built jack and will put HF freight jacks to shame....

I keep a 29.95 (on sale 19.95) little sears jack out front to do a quick repair on a tire... It has lifted every thing I have put it under even a N... I call it a pocket jack if I have to go out on the road to do a tire fix'n it goes with me... It weighs in less that 20lbs.... Its fraught is a small foot print and only goes up to 13" are so it will tip over....

I used a 2 1/2 ton jack one time.Went out and bought a 3 1/2 ton for 65 bucks to finish the job.Got the tiny jack free at the dump.It had a nut missing, replaced that.Jacked up a full size Merc to change a tire.Made a trip for a new jack.Sent the little jack to the scrap yard.If I had a torch I would have cut it in half.

What ever kind of jack you need is fine , just don't trust any jack without securely blocking it from coming down. always think safety first.

Yes, I agree, BUT, most wallets are not as full as we hoped. The vendors are making a good profit on the offshore products and will continue to do so until ..................???

after years of risking my life :) with a ratcheting hi-lift jack, I finally got a set of bottle jacks in cvarious sizes from HF when they went on sale , and back when you COULD use the 20% coupon on them.

I got a 4t, 30t, and 50t ( already have some small old 2-3isht bottle jack from a hardware store.. )

i must say.. the 30 and 50 are super beefy.. and using some timber under them and a piece of 2x6 on top to spready weight.. they do make jacking my 7610s rear axle a breeze. hi lift jack barely got the front up for tire changeing.

I have a floor jack that i rescued from the dump.. put new orings from a generic kit in it and filled it with gear oil and it is strong like bull and don't leak.. been using it for about 5ys now.. it's a small one though.. like 3t or so.

have a porta power with long cyl as well.. just havn't needed to use it as a jack yet...yet... :)

Right now I am rebuilding a "PALLET JACK" in my shop. 5ton capacity. Years ago, I would jack-up my 9N with one of these and simply push the tractor around in my shop.

A Pallet jack us used for moving stacks of apple bins, fully loaded with apples. Each bin weighs 2500 lbs. loaded with apples.

So, a stack of empty bins, 7 high, will weigh about the same as a N.

I have one of these 2T low profile, long reach floor jacks. Can't beat it and with a 31" saddle height works great on tractors and trucks with high ground clearance - something that HF jack won't handle well.

Greg Smith Equipment

I purchased my jack from HF (they no longer sell it) but the one from Greg Smith looks identical in all respects. I purchased my 2 post lift from GS and you can't beat them for service or price. They will ship heavy items freight with lift gate delivery or to a local terminal where you can pick-up. Give them a call for a shipping quote.

As long as the topic is jacks, does anyone make a good handyman jack anymore? The $49 HF just doesn't feel as beefy as the ones I remember and a fair percentage of user reviews give them bad marks.

TSC sells the original HI Lift jack for 80.00 and the import copy for 50.00.If you look at both you will buy the original.I paid 28.00 for mine a lot of years ago.The HI Lift jack is not a jack for dummies, you have to keep the climbing pins clean and oiled.

Good never had a good one of those. Now as for one that is made like it should be you need to order it from a place like O'Reilly's or NAPA and make sure it is a name brand one and then you will pay 3 times what you payed for that one or more

Well a 2-1/2 ton jack is way over kill for an N series since they are only around 2500lbs. But yes a couple good bottle jacks are good to have. Me I have probably at least 10 small floor jacks and then 10 bottle jacks but over the year it seems I got a lot of boxes at auction with jacks etc.
