I converted my 8N to 12v and I love it, but when I narrowed the front-end to plow the axel hits the alt. Anybody else have that problem? How did fix the mounts? Can you buy mounts for this problem? Thanks |

Every front mount needs a stop added to the left side of the axle for insurance even with the right alt mount... |

| I purchased the alternator and mounting kit from this site. I have not had a problem. This site sells just the mounting brackets. |

| John, I bought mine from Y/T and I'm happy with it except the steering arm hits the pully when the front-end is narrowed to the last hole. Have to set it there to plow. |

| There is a likelyhood that I am wrong (take it for what it's worth), seems to me a shorter fan belt might help. HTH |

| I thought about that but with a I have front dist. and it may be hard to clear it with a shorter belt. I'm hoping someone else has delt with problem before I buy belts hope it works. |

| tuckt he alternator in hight and tight, and use an idler pulley and shorter belt. the steering arm and axle will be NO WHERE near the alternator. I did this on my 2n. easy to do with a bolt and pulley with a bearing, and a couple set key stop collars from tractor supply. Probably about 20$ of parts in all... |

| Now that looks good. Thanks a lot! No wonder your called a guru. Now if you could explain the 2 spade connectors on an alternator, I would mail you a chistmas card. |

| | the spade connectors are even easier thant he bolts and pulley. :) they are labled 1 and 2 #2 simply is looped over tot he charge lug. IE.. make up a 4" jumper wire with a ring terminal on one end, and a female spade onthe other end, and plug the spade to #2, and put the ring terminal on the big charge lug on the back of the alternator.. the same one that runs out to your battery/solenoid/ammeter.. etc. #1 is a lil more special. it needs to be run thru a diode or small trailer marker lamp and to the 'coil' side of the key switch. ie.. the side of the key switch that also feeds the coil. if you went the diode route, radio shack 276-1661 or 276-1141 will work. genericall, a 1n5408 DIODE WILL WORK AND IS VERY BEEFY. these diodes will generally have a black or solid colored body, and a stripe on one end.that is the cathode.. that stripe goes toward the #1 terminal . if you don't want to mess with a diode.. find a lamp holder that has a 194 bulb in it.. runt he 194 bulb inline with the #1 terminal and the key side of the key switch. when you turn the key on, the lamp will lite up.. when the engine starts and you get her to about 500rpm, the lamp will go off as the alternator starts to charge. this is a classic 'idiot' lamp setup. soundguy |

Or buy a 'One Wire Low RPM Alternator'. No extra wires needed. |

| | every 1 wire I see costs more $$.. why pay more to get out of adding a 1$ lamp and a couple feet of wire? I'm not sure what people find intimidating about a coupl effet of extra wire and a 194 lamp bulb ??? soundguy
