1954 naa ford tractor wont start

hello every body, my name is nolan, i live in deap east texas, im new to this forum and hi to all, i got a 1954 ford naa tractor and need some help, the little copper ribbon inside of the distribiter broke, the one that hooks to the points, a piece of the ribbon fell down on the inside of the distribiter, nocked all my fire out to the points, i think its under the weights, how do you pull the weights out of the distribiter, hope i didnt fry any thing, bad short, any info would be appreciated, thanks nolan.

Probably never hurt anything if left there, but you can remove 2 screws & lift breaker plate out to access the area.

Hello Nolan, and welcome!
I don't think you fried anything electrical down in their.
Might hang up your timing advance, so it would be a good idea to get it out.
I would be really tempted to just use a shop vac with a cloth/screen over the
end to see if I could suck it out and catch it without tearing it apart.
Hey, it's free to try! :)

Probably right it won't hurt anything being so thin and flimsy. but years ago changing points on a 64 plymouth I dropped the small screw for the points thought it went down to the ground I searched under the car and on the the engine with no luck. I found another screw to replace it and tried to start the engine. well that screw found it's way inside the dizzy and jammed against the shaft breaking the tang off the end of the shaft. it cost me a new distributer shaft and a lot of time with a magnet on a stick getting that tang out. I would sleep better knowin I got that out.And like jmor said it's easey to get at it.

made a nother copper strip, but no sparkie to points, and no sparkie from coil to distribiter. hooked up test light, the little short wire coming off the coil to the distribiter, no sparkie, why is it grounding out. as long as that short wire isnt hooked to dist test light stays on, hook wire back on side of dist the light goes out, its like something is grounding out. whats up with that, any ideals.

Did you check the insulator and wire/stud where it goes through the side of the distributor?

how do i check insulater, you think bolt is touching metal to where it is grounding out

Easy way to check it is to take it out and run a direct temporary wire from the coil to the points through the hole.
The feed through studs are available to replace it.

Nolan.......surprizingly enuff, it don't make much difference which way you connect up yer roundcan ignition coil. But iff'n yer sphincterly challenged, hook up yer sparkie coil terminals to match yer battery polarity. ...ie... (+) on the coil goes to ground thru the points to the battery (+). Simple, eh? ........Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

i have a few ideals and ideas.. :)

1, if the points are closed up, the lamp will stay on.

2, if the insulation bushing is damaged where that wire goes thru the side of the dizzy to the copepr strip, it will short out.

3, condensor could be shorted

4, less likely, the breaker plate could be bad.

check this in that order.
