Just bought a ford 860 & need to install a new temp gauge. Can anyone provide some tips?It appears that I need to remove the hood & work on it from the side. There are two screws with nuts holding it in a [wide u-shaped] bracket. If the two nuts are removed, will it slip out from the bracket, or is it necessary to remove more components, such as the instrument panel? I already am feeling the temptation to get the drill and jerry rig a bracket on the side of the hood for the new gauge. Thoughts? Thanks, David |

| | no need to remove the tin unless you just want practice doing so. as AWHTX said. pull the battery and sender bulb, then bracket.. then it all comes out the top of the dash.. reinstall reverse order.. |

| The original gauge is a mechanical style gauge which means the indicator, tube and sensing bulb are all a sealed unit. You have to remove the sensing bulb from the head and then you remove the 2 nuts holding the bracket on the underside of the instrument panel and the whole sealed unit comes out through the hole in the panel. It is easier to get to the 2 nuts if you remove the battery. |

| | That the gauge will come out through the top side of the instrument panel is what I was hoping to hear. Also it will be much easier to remove the battery than the hood. Thanks for the information. |
