Here are two videos of the 8N which I still have a problem with - please forgive the odd set up dont want to put the hood back on each time to run.
In the first one i am going up a fairly steep hill and as you can hear it is misfiring at first - not easy to tell but this gets worse going up the hill under load

Second one is in 3rd gear low rpm going up a hill and it does not misfire at all - the guy who came over to look at the tractor commented on this too - that it seemed to run just fine in low rpm even up a steep hill with no misfire - said he could hear govener kicking in too - but as soon as you increase the rpm and put it under load it starts popping and missing..

| | I once had a problem with my 51 Ford flat head engine doing all sorts of irregular running. It finally got fixed with a new set of points. It seems that the first set I installed had a weak spring in the points and caused them to bounce. If I were you I think I'd try another set of points and another condenser. Zane |

| I used to think the "miss-fire" you identify was normal ford tractor behavior ! I ran a couple tractors for years that always did the trick you identify here as abnormal. In addition to my low standards.....I never considered that distributor shaft bushings would wear out so I never checked them. I wonder if you may have worn bushings that could affect the point gap and function. What do the experts think? |
