I decided to try to adjust some of the play out of my steering gear. But my steering gear is a little different than those discussed and diagrammed in the Parts Book. There is no top cover on the steering gear, and the drag link looks to be one piece with the rear rod end. I assume I can still adjust the play by rotating the sector housings (4 bolt pattern on each sector housing) but I'm curious why the configuration is different.

your steering gear is EXACTLY like the early one in the service manual and EXACTLY like every other early 8n steering gear out there.

the fact that you havn't taken the tractor apart enough to see it changes NOTHING!

Looks just like mine there is a top cover on it you just have to take enough stuff off to get to it.

No top cover, huh?

Check out tip # 39.

A set of manuals would be a very wise investment.

Lets be precise..........

Are you saying that your early 8N steering box does not have p/n 3545?

If that's what you are saying, is it missing or is the box assembled w/o one?

uh...

you do know that you have to take the hood off, then the battery, then the battery box, then the dash, in order to access the steering column and top of the steering box.

you do realize that don't you?
