after you make one up,(Thanks to Bruce)

open your valve for normal feed, not reserve

Then, run the tractor out of gas on level ground.

notch the stick at that level.

only mark that really matters :D

( with todays gas, they only get enough for the job at hand,

and I never seem to have enough $ to fill em anyway, so I'm

always flirting with that notch!)

I used the stick in the picture as a guide to make a few more for me & the neighbors w/ N's. All of my home made sticks were marked w/ a Sharpie & while a little blurred, have held up pretty well for 10 years.

I figure the Sharpie marks wood better than plastic!

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see

I used a Sharpie to mark a couple of 5 gallon gas cans so I would know exactly what was in each can. Filled the cans with gasoline, accidently dribbled a little gas on the outside of the can, and guess what? That little dribble of gas immediately washed off all the ink from that Sharpie.

Looks like once you get the 1 1/4"
for the first gallon, it is aprox. 3/4" for each gallon after that.
