My water pump went out on me yesterday. I've been fortunate that this is one of the few problems I've had in the six years I've owned the tractor.
Not sure if I want to tackle this myself but I'm game.
I've got the FO manual but I'm hoping that someone might have an easy to follow step-by-step tutorial; special tips, etc.
Any guidance at all will be helpful. Thanks!
BTW, I have a new Ford in my stable. Just got it last week. Tell me what you think!

| | Ken, Sweeeeeet car !! sure do miss those days. waterpumps are an easy task to accomplish, close quarters but can be done w/o hood removal. drain radiator if'n any antifreeze is left in system. loosen and remove fan belt. remove fan blade and than waterpump. CLEAN mating surfaces well. (hint)I have had to use a mirror at times due to limited lighting on block to make sure block was CLEAN. A little grease will hold gasket in place or some sort of sealant. Enjoy the experience, hope this helps, bob |

| Nice car! I liked the fast back better but still very nice. I really want another 68 GTO. I got rid of mine in 74 due to being young and dumb and having a wife and new baby son. Still have the wife and son but man do I want the car!
Water pumps are very easy! Biggest thing is gasket mounting surfaces must be clean! You have to make sure that all the old gasket is removed from the block mating surfaces!. I replaced mine when I rebuilt the engine this spring. I would think looking at it it may be better to remove the hood and radiator to get at it. I'm sure you can do it without removing that stuff but being able to look at what you are doing would make a first timers chances of a good job better.
As far as doing it without pulling the hood and rad....loosen the belt and remove. Unbolt the fan and remove. Unbolt the pump and pull it out.
Now CLEAN!!!!!!
Reverse order to install. If properly cleaned and no real pitting is seen sealant isn't needed but using a little willnot hurt anything.
