Hi, I need a 1.5"X3" suction liner strainer for my backhoe, it is just a metal screen, is this a standard part I can find at Napa or TSC? I am not finding anything online, I must be searching wrong?

Why not just clean and re use that one???

That is what it is designed to do with it.

Regardless of the size of the hose your effective suction line siize is the SMALLEST of the components in that plumbing run. And from the looks of the picture that is 1" or smaller pipe. A 1" or 1-14" NPT filter head and 100 mesh stainless steel strainer should work fine.

Look up Y type hydraulic strainers. Unlikely you will find a replacement element for your existing strainer but complete strainers are avaialble staring at around $50. Your line is reduced considerably after the strainer or so I'm not sure what the flow rate is. A 1" or 1-1/4" NPT spin-on head and filter should be more than adequate and runs about $50 as well.

The screw-in tank strainers like the one below are a common item but I've never been able to find replacements for the old OEM strainers that are insde the line itself. If you can't use an in tank straiiner one possible solution is to mount an external spin on type filter head on the outside and use a cartridge type wire strainer.

Well it goes inside this "y" that I have attached a
pic of. Not sure how I would use a spin-on style,
since that suction line is about 2" O.D. could I step it down without creating a problem?

I don't know much about hydraulics, but I would say that strainer is not helping my performance . . . what say you?

I would not "step it down" in size, but i would try to clean it in solvent and blow it out real good with compressed air if I could not find a replacement. Don't operate the system without a strainer/filter or you will have many control valve and pump problems as the sump trash travels through the system.

If the filter screen is cut, get some fine wire(preferably stainless steel) and "sew" it back together best you can....even a slightly cobled-up filter/strainer is better than none. Maybe you can find a replacement later but can still work the tractor till then.
