BIL went to whatever Good Will place he likes to shop at and pick up an anolog multi meter. Now he knows nothing about electricity and gave it to me. New leads and batteries and it's good to go. Same make and model my dad gave me in the 70's that fried years ago now (never lend one out)! :P :P :P

Will come in handy while I'm working on older stuff! Going to keep my digi meter too.....LOL :D :D :D

Have a very similar one bought at Sears so long ago I don't
remember. Still works fine. Does not handle amperage over a
few milliamps however, but does everything else fine!

I have that exact meter. Bought new at Sears in 1982. I still use it today. Just keep freash batteries in it and it will work forever.

Sounds like a lot of us used or had those. I did as well, as well as one of the old blue RCA VTVM. Not sure if I still have it or not, but I bought a heathkit tube tester kit and built it, unfortunately it was obsolete within about 5 years when tubes started disappearing. I had the unfortunate experience of working on some of the early RCA "hybrid" tv's which had some tubes, and some solid state components when they were in the process of changing over to all solid state.

As a child of the electronic age I couldn't live without my Fluke digital multimeter. But that micronta is the one I got from "The Shack" when I was 10 in '68 and still use it ( or my Simpson ) often. Some measurements just need to have an analog meter, and that Micronta is a good one!

Yes, the Simpson 260 is a classic (the one on the right). First came out before WWII, they are still being manufactured.

I bought two off evilBay last year (one for parts) and there is not much these won't do. You can download the manual.
Analog meters work where digital meters won't like on our Fords that are running generators.

Dennis, Gary......I don't know the original price. I do know my dad did in fact get it at Radio Shack. He gave me that model and the smaller one to my BIL (sis's hubby) for Christmas one year.

In the late 80's I let a friend use mine and he let the smoke out. Sense then I picked up a el cheapo every couple of years as needed until I got the pictured Digi one about 6 years ago.

One of my wife's brothers picked it up. I know I'll use it for him (good body man but knows nothing about those) on his boat or his classic 63 T Bird.

Rick;

That Micronta, is the same one I have used for yrs....Best one for the $$'s I have ever had, for shop work. Made and sold for Radio Shack!!!

I also have the miniture of it, for field work, and carry it in my "N" tool box!!!!

Still have the carrying cases for both of mine

Think my wife bought mine for me in the early 70's, to work on my "Ham Radio" gear!!!

Good score!!!!

Gary :)

oldtanker, that is the first meter, I had. I think it was about $20, new. I lost it in a house fire.
