Several years ago I had to lay my 8N up and have not run it since. At that time I drained all gas (tank & carb) and disconnected the battery. When I tried to start it today, I have absolutely no spark. It is a side mount with original 6 volt system. Any suggestions before I dig into it? |

| Clean or replace the points and I will bet it at least tries to start. I get a good many calls from people with no start problems and 95% of the problem is a no spark thing and the points are the problem 95% of the time. Had a guy call me a few weeks ago with a no start tractor and it took me 15 minutes to have it running and he had been with out it for 1.5 years and he was kicking him self for not calling me when he was given my number |

| | The 'no spark' problem is most likely exactly what Harold said: points. Follow his advice. You need a fully charged battery to spin the starter AND power the ignition circuit. Charge the battery. An engine that has sat that long will have dry rings & poor compression; pull the plugs & put a tblspn or so of oil in each cylinder. Post back w/ results or more questions. |

| Check the points. Is the a spark across the points when you open and close them? Tractor in neutral and ignition on? Is there batter voltage to the battery side of the coil with the points open? Points may be corroded and you may be able to get it going by cleaning up the points. Answer those questions and post back if that doesn't point you in the right direction. Point gap is .025. |
