Been sitting for several yrs. got it started and running good. Shes smoking pretty bad at high speed in neutral. this evening i noticed oil around the exhaust pipe clamp. Stuck or broken oil rings? Ive not done a compression chk. how much atf to use and do i put it in the oil and fuel tank. i removed plugs and sprayed blaster in plug holes ,will let it sit overnight. |

| Autolite 437's run a little hotter and may help with the spark plug fouling. |

| started it up today after sitting overnight with pb blaster in the plug holes and run it around the yard a little, no raw oil coming from exhaust clamp like yesterday. put some atf in gas tank as suggested. i will add some atf in the plug holes this eve. and let sit a couple days,as i got some more odds and ends to do. |

| | ditto what db said. and if you do add atf tot he oil.. do it right before you change the oil. IE.. add a quart of atf.. run her till warm, then drain. might want to get a few of the cheapy 3$ fram C3 filters on hand depending on how bad the oil looks.. if it comes out like chunky tar.. plan on some oil changes.. :) ps.. entirely possible to have bad oil ring and good compression rings. also.. can have bad compression and oil rings.. but comp may stay up due to the extra oil sealingthe comp rings. etc. |

| Remove the spark plugs and put 4 ozs in each cylinder - Let is sit for several days, turn the engine over and repeat. Spin the motor with the plugs out to flush the cylinders before attempting to start.
Mix a quart of ATF with five gallons of gas. I would not recommend putting ATF in the crank case - There's no telling how gunked up the crank case and the last thing you want is to clog the oil pump screen. A more conservative approach would be frequent oil changes using High Detergent oil - Change it and the filter when the oil turns black. |
