IGNITION COIL Cross Reference Numbers - IG-110
This information is posted in the interest of local source and possibly saving some money. The spark coil required for the non-ballasted MG ignition system is a common type widely used around the world. These should be available at any local auto parts store, and lots of other kinds of motorized equipment dealers. This is an extensive list of coils that do not require a ballast resistor and can be installed with no modifications necessary to the wiring harness.
Beware that prices vary considerably. I bought a NAPA IC64 coil in April 2004, list price $62.50 discounted to $40.00. NAPAonline.com lists IC14SB for a meager $17.99 (April 2007). When I needed one for my lawn tractor I found a John Deere AT10399 on-line for $14.95, and it works just as well in an MG. Maximum voltage output could be anywhere from 17,000 volts nominal with a small spark plug gap up to 55,000 volts with a large plug gap and high output coil. There will be far more part numbers that are not listed here, as I have not listed all of the auto manufacturers (missing Ford and GM and MG for instance)

Its only for the die hard guys that know what they are doing,,, any engine will benefit from extra KV demand at different operating conditions... Its not a high rev'n performance engine thang... I am not trying to sell those that don't understand it just throw'n a bone to those that do... |

| For the die hard tuners I don't use any of those much any more... I use something like
http://autoparts.pricegrabber.com/engine-parts/BWD-Ignition-Coil-E92Z/m769919426.html
and dial in the amps with a resistor... these in Ford are chebby style coils it does not matter as long as you know how to tone'em down... They kick arse no round can coil I know of can beat'em...
I run the 2 pole type on my golf cart its never ran better... |

| | considering that even the basic off the shelf icq4 coil can make WAY more KV than a .025 spark gap can use.. it seems like getting much over that is a bit of a financial waste? if a ic14, can make 2x to 3x the kv needed.. and since plug gap control spark potential. any coil capable of makingthe kv required to overcome the spark gap at a given pressure should perform the same. now.. add that to a high revving multi cyl machine, and put a coil on each plug and you drastically reduce the recharge time issues. that and super wide plug gaps. that's where aa high performance coil would shine.. especially COP systems. |

I posted this on the Ford truck board for a guy that say he walked into his local part store and asked for a no resistor needed coil , the dipweed said he needed an application or part number to find it .
Everybody has the Napa number to give when it comes up once a week but some of us do not like Napa or even have a Napa parts store . |

| OR, just look for a coil that says "for 12 volt systems, no external resistor required" |
