Been kinda lax, in my carb-help replies, here lately!!! "Bad Attitude" I'm thinkin'!!

Do you ever stop to think, WHY some of the "OLDER GUY's" keep answering ??'s on this forum????

Guy's like....JMOR, BruceVA, Soundguy, DellWA, HOBO, RustyFarmall, UltraDog, and a whole host of others, Keep this forum going, with answers to the ??'s that crop up from time to time,...AND they have already.."Been there, Done that"!!!

Once in awhile they also Need attitude Adjustments, just like I do!!!

Just thought maybe I would share, a couple of the attitude adjust., that I have recieved in the last few days.

1st.... I recieved a phone call from a member here, thanking me for helping him, via email, with his carb overhaul..(says it runs great, with the info. I sent him)!!!

2nd.... I couldn't stay asleep this morning (got up @ 1:30 a.m.) and flipped on the coffee pot...and the computer. There was this email, from another Email/phone carb help!!!!

ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT.....you bet!!!!

Here is what I read, in this email!!! :

Gary,

I just want to write you and thank you again for all the help you gave me on the TO-20.

It has rained down here for 2 weeks, hard, the ground is saturated and the grass is wet all the time. We had a break in the rain yesterday and I mowed about 1.5 acres where the grass was about 6 - 8 inches tall and wet. I had another 5 acres to mow today, and I used your trick of raising the back just a little more than what it was after we talked, as the grass on this land was over a foot tall and wet.

Man, that thing went through the grass like a hot knife through butter, laid down a nice mulched output and the old beast was only on half throttle. Had to go in 1st gear, but that's OK as it did such a great job.

I thought I might lower the rear of the finishing mower and go back over it, but after looking at it, I thought that's good enough!!!!

So thanks again for the help on the Carb. and the tip of tilting the finishing mower so the back of the blades chop up the cuttings!!!! Normally I would have bushhogged the field, and man does that make a mess!!!!

But not with the finishing mower raised and tilted!!!

Thanks again!!!!!

Have a Great Day and May God Bless!!!

End email!

SO.....All of us that answer ??'s on the forum...(at least I do)....Sometimes just need an attitude adjustment, to stick around.

Happy Tractoring!!!

Gary (GB in MT)

I wouldn't have such a good lookin', smooth runnin', hard workin' 8N if it weren't for all the folks who answered my questions and cheered me on during my restoration.

Been here long enough to see there's a continuous cycle of new folks coming in with pretty much the same questions, plus the seasonal cycle questions, too ("can you bale with an 8N?; how big a back blade for snow removal?").

A *huge* thanks to everyone who takes time to help the new folks along and to help the more experienced when an odd problem crops up.

I don't get a chance to read this forum but every couple of days and I don't post very much. It is hard to find people like there are on this forum that will offer their help for free and so frequently. There are some very good Ford N mechanics here that have helped a lot of people get their tractor running. I have had an 8N for 35+ years and have stilled learned a lot from reading others post. Thanks for all the effort.

I would like to thank everyone for constantly answering the same questions over and over again. I apologize in advance for doing it. I know I will eventually.

On a side note: The search function on this forum is horrendous. :(

I can't begin to count the 'clock' hours that I have saved

because of this sites archives.

Especially when working on unfamiliar equipment

or, ahem...different color tractors.

forgot, lost, CRS'd, different user names over the years,

but I'll always be here reading.

Thanks

I sure hope if this site ever ends, that the owners will let us

download the ENTIRE archives before they go.

ps Like a lot here, I grew up learning from hard handed

old guys that could fix anything. And were liable to cuff me upside the head if

I did something dumb/dangerous.

This site is much more pleasant

I'm new to tractor ownership and really enjoy reading the answers to others problems. I know "someday" the same problems will arise for my 43 2N and myself. For now I'm just going to keep reading and learning. Thank You to all who answer the questions in advance. Now to learn why the 6V battery is installed with a negative ground ~rolls eyes~

I sure have benefited from the folks here...over and over. And as I read I notice a lot of the questions have been asked many times. Yet, if the one asking will listen and follow the advise, they get help just like it was the first time that problem came up. And every time I read I seem to learn something new. Love It! Thanks folks.

Kinda worried me at first reading you'd gotten an "attitude adjustment".

Around here that means slapped around or roughed up & I couldn't imagine you ever needing that (cept maybe from Miss Les)

What you got was an "atta-boy" & a well deserved one I'm sure!

As a life long mechanic, any mechanic will tell you there are tricks to the trade. But on this site I am impressed with the extensive knowledge and the willingness to help others with their short comings of these tractors. I like Bruce Va.grew up learning from others that knew and appreciate helping others. "Giving back" as Bruce says is a good thing !!! We all would be better off if all of America had the same attitude!! Thanks guys for being there for others... we all appreciate it!

Over the years I have attended a lotta of "Industrial Seminars". Sure the instructors are really great when it comes to the product they represent. ALL due respect and hats off to 'em.

The best time at seminars is when the instructor says "OK....lets take a break".

Alsays a cup of Joe. And I look for the smoker's corner. There, I know someone has the same handicap as I......generally have a ear tuned to something running back home.

So, moral to the story: OUR JOB : KEEP 'em running. And be on "standby" to help out whenever WE can, and what WE can, with what WE have to work with.

I guess I'll have to try to be a little meaner in the future .

Very insightful post Gary.

I can't speak for others here, but I know I feel a debt of gratitude to a lot of guys, here & at other times & places in my life who helped me out w/ auto mechanics. So, in a small way, my helping out others is a 'pay-back' for all the help I got over the years. And, BTW, still get from the regulars here! Never to old to learn!

I was fortunate to have a father who did his own basic auto mechanic work and I lived across the street from a garage. Depending on the mechanic working there at the time, I often got "hands-on" lessons, usually in exchange for pumping gas or cleaning the place. And I had two neighbors who built race cars; one had a 32 Ford for drag racing & the other built oval track cars.

It's indeed nice to hear a "thank you" every now & then.

I learned of this site after purchasing my 2N in 2003. I don't do farcebook or any other of those social sites. I don't comment too often but I read and learn a lot on here. Truly a great bunch of folks on here, always can count on you guys for knowledge, experience and grins and chuckles. Thanks to ALL!

When I was shopping for my first tractor two years ago, it was this site, and others like it, that inspired purchase of an 8N. The knowledge here helped me make it strong and dependable. It is a good tractor for my needs. The neighbors, with their bigger MF's, a Kubota, and a Long, are impressed by this antique workhorse.

I think we'd all be surprised if we knew how many folks obtain useful information from this site and never leave any feedback.

Thanks everybody.

GB I for one deffinely appreciate all of the help I get here on
this site and the dedication of all of our Tactor Gurus JMOR
has spent the better part of last week helping me trouble shoot
my six volt single wire generator and with help from him
HOBO,Soundguy, Royce I am on the road to having it fixed.
I think I got if figure rd out now to just simple understanding
basic electricity.
I know from re-reading the Fo4 that a loose fan belt will
change the generator output but I also am sure if I was to
clean the end caps and housing of the generator this will
provide a better connection point for six volt system and
provide better current flow. Isn't "Clean Bright and Tight" in
Bruce's "50Tips"
Yes I also have missed quite a few names also but I know
from previous experiences Zane is the man when it comes to
hydraulics, John TR for the steering an axels Dell the sparikie
mister, Old, I could never name all of you who helped me get
my 9N back to perfect working order.
But I have been around long enough to see us loose members
like Dunk and I know we all won't be around for ever.
To everyone who has helped me fix my antique iron let me
assure you it has been appreciated and shame on me if I ever
forgot to Thank any of you God Bless You All.
Bart Gabriel.
