The idiot lamp from NAPA installed in line on excite wire will not let alt start charging & stays on when tractor is running. The light comes on & off with switch. If you unplug the excite wire & bypass lamp then plug it back in, the alt starts charging, the light stays on but then you can shut it off with key normally. I know this thing is wired right because I have checked & rechecked it many times. I will get a diode & try that. This is a Delco-3 wire alt & it charges great. Any ideas welcomed.

Tom, put your NAPA light back on. All you have to do is run your RPMs up to 800-1000 for a few seconds and the light will go out. Also, a 1/2" hole in the dash makes a perfect fit and lets you know when the key is on when not running.

too low of wattage lamp.. needs to be about a 194 or similar wattage bulb. low watt bulbs drop too much voltage, reduce series current too much.. nothing left for vreg to auto excite.. if you like the lamp, but want a diode.. parallel them... marked line of diode toward alt.. 1a/50piv minimum.. 3a/200piv preferred....
