"Time the steering"

It only applies to 9N/2N tractors. It means syncronizing the pinion mesh points of the left and right sector gears so that they are both positioned at the same angle when the steering is at the midpoint of it's travel. The shop manual describes the procedure.

KenPa, someday these old tractors will be lost to history. Its great to hear new folks taking an interest in them. People who can pass on knowledge is a valuable comodity. I'm sure we all care about our old iron and want to see them around for many generations. However...it is a shame to hear intelligent people with vast knowledge express themselves in confusing baby talk and sound like a moron.

Sometimes he can be a gruff old buzzard.
But he has given more help to more people here than many of us added together.
I figure when you have answered as many questions as he has you'll be entitled to be a gruff old buzzard too.
In the meantime if any of us don't like his style, we don't have to read him.
 
Why pick on the "old bussard". The man has lost most of his hearing,but enjoys being on this board. And most times he is right.He means no harm to anyone.Every one of us has a different personallity. That's why you have the woman you have for a wife and he has his "or did have". I can't wait for him to answer with his threads. I chuckle at just about every one. I just plain enjoy his answers
 
Hey Bob! My Dodge Grand Caravan has Minnesota license plate CRMUDGN.

My GMC HD2500 has plate 8N 850.

I can always tell when someone is familiar with the word curmudgeon; smiles, waves, toots, and just plain laughter. A minivan is the perfect vehicle for that plate.
