In your picture it looks like the black wire the end part is shorted to the frame and if it is you will not have any spark. Move that connection away from the place it is hitting one and you will most likely have spark

The C clip is positioned incorrectly.

The copper strip touching the condenser wire is from the points; that isn't a problem. But, if that condenser wire is touching the C clip, it's grounding out.

You've got the wrong screw in the insulator. It's supposed to be a concave head brass screw to insure a good contact w/ the pig tail.

It doesn't look like it has any insulator at all, but that might just be my eyes or the picture.

Do the continuity check I suggested.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I was going to clean my distributor and put in fresh points, but i can't figure out how to separate the copper strip from the insulator. I removed the screw that hold the condenser wire in place, removed the condesner, even removed the c clipa nd the whole plate, but I can;t figure out how the copper strip comes off. maybe mine is so gunked on it seems par tof the insulator?

" I can;t figure out how the copper strip comes off"

You won't do that but once.

It doesn't come off. If it does come off, or if it breaks, you will be making another one & a means of attaching it. That's usually easier by replacing the insulator w/ a plastic license plate grommet.

Be careful!
