TORNADO DAMAGE IN CENTRAL ALABAMA

My daughter grand daughter traveled to the area where I volunteered last Wednesday to help clean up.
FEMA has moved into the area and won't allow people to go in the most affected areas and volunteer. First you have to prove insurance, license and be certified to do something like run a chain saw etc. Even though like myself who was running a chain saw back with they were operated by two men in 1946 has to be certified???? I don't even have a clue how to get certified and don't intend to even go that route.
Our Federal government has gone totally insane with all their rules and regulations in my opinion and I may get thrown in jail because I Plan on going back into the areas where help is needed and try to help.
They sort of remind me of a time on the Interstate when a young girl lost control of her car and flipped landing in the ditch along side of the road. I stopped my car and grabbed a towel and ran back toward the car. When I got to the edge of the highway and started down the slope some nut grabbeb my by the arm and asked me to stop and pray for her with him?????
I told him he could do that alone and I went on down to the girl. A fire truck came boiling up out of control and hit that nut and I never did learn if it killed him or not???? I think actions are more effective than words.

FEMA my --s!

They are the ones who in New Orleans wouldn't allow school busses to be used to evacuate people befor the flood and hundreds of the busses were destroyed by floodwaters. One young man commandeered one and hauled out about a hundred people and they arrested him.

Stupid!!!!

The code/jaw writting people today think everyone has to be certified to do anything. Just look at the shows on home improvement, he was not Certified to install that item that is wrong call the city and ask why the item was installed and not certified.

It's our own fault! We keep on voting in the dumb a_s'es that put these laws and people in charge of things that can't pour p_ss out of a boot if the directions were on the heel! Like Hank Jr. says " A country boy can survive". Leave FEMA for the poor city folk. I'll take my garden, guns, family and the lord any day.

I hear ya zane- I was in west palm beach at my sisters when a hurricane came thru- wrecked the roof on her house. We got some shingles and such and were gonna fix it until the cops came and threatened to throw us in jail because we didn't have a license or permit to install shingles!! We waited until the sun went down and did it by moonlight, but the city actually hired out of town cops to patrol the streets just to make sure no one was fixing their own house without a permit.

It's part of the reason I laugh so hard when nnalert and nnalert talk about freedom- they don't even know what freedom is.

I was able to get in then affected areas around here only because I knew the cop,,, then I go a permission slip from the bud I was help'n,,, after a week they let other folks in to help,,, my bud had to ask at least 8 volunteers with saws to leave,,, even tho he needed them someone was going to get hurt...
I took my 2 cheap saws,,, they both refused to start when they got hot... 2 things I don't do well,,, run a saw are ride a horse...

ZANE better check that spelling;; Is that F EMA or EN EMA ... Very simular in sooooooo many ways...

Every New Orleans" school bus could have made numerous trips, bringing people to a safer location and the bus fleet would have not been destroyed..

I also wondered what the School Superintentent, Mayor, the County Sheriff and the Governor were thinking...

We are not immune to stupidity in Minnesota either... The I35 bridge that fell down a few years ago,, in the prior year, it was "discussed" about closing the bridge because of structural problems.. Naa, just fix the deck for now....

Looks like all the states get to take turns, OoFdA

Karl Malone, who grew up and played basketball in this neck of the woods, has several businesses including a trucking operation. After Katrina, Karl showed up in Pascagoola, MS, to help residents by hauling away the storm debris they had neither the money or equipment to do themselves.

Malone was greeted by FEMA and the Corps of Engineers, who gave him the same crap Zane talked about. Malone basically told them to go commit perversions upon themselves, and he got busy hauling debris. To my knowledge they never did shut him down.

It is Government policy to discourage people from helping others.. It is labeled as such in the NIMS national incident management system--It is like alot of other Government operations it works well in theory, but not so well in real life--they are worried about lawsuits etc...because that is who puts all this crap together--Washington has the highest ratio of lawyers per capita than anywhere else in the world....A novel approach would be to not allow lawsuits during a disaster...work at your own risk--most would be willing to help. Common sense ain't so common.

This is all kinda like this tea party fella I know of who recently wrote a book telling how bad Medicare and Social Security is. The problem is that someone in his family was recently real sick and would have lost everything, including the farm, if they had not had Medicare to cover the medical expenses plus the guy is living off his parents Social Security. I think he believes he is "entitled". Like a previous guy said, some people just don't have any sense.
The point is, no one wants to accept responsibility for their actions. There are too many lawsuits and too many laws and lawyers. We need some law but we need people to be able to do what is right when the time comes. Helping your neighbor is just the right thing to do in my book. Gene

Similar reason why I gave up volunteering for a local fire dept years ago. I had noticed more and more 'rules' and 'mandatory' training. First you had to become a first responder, and receive training, then a push to become a 'certified fire fighter'. The long time fire chief at the time never did really enforce these rules, and in fact was not certified himself, however we had a very good record, and response times showed dedication to what we did. Finally when a new city administrator took the helm (who by the way had a fetish for fire and police type work) he decided he would push for the retirement of the long time chief, and hire a new chief. After that was accomplished he started in on the mandatory first responder training and anyone who belonged to the dept had to be first responder trained. I informed the new chief that he was missing the meaning of the word volunteer, and handed him their equimpment and walked out. Maybe they are better for it, however I do not see it. I know they increased their call count by about 6 times chasing ambulances. Budget shows it too as the old fire chief could run the entire dept for less than 50,000/year, and now the new fire chief makes close to that in his salary and city vehicle they provide him.

Normal people view disasters as an obligation to help our fellow citizens. The government views them as good for business and a way to make a profit. No license? Then you aren't a business. Volunteer? You are keeping someone from making a profit. Disaster and suffering are about profit and have been starting with Katrina. FEMA and the Chamber of Commerce are 2 peas in a pod. It's BOTH parties, nnalert and nnalert in cahoots to further the interests of business over that of individuals. Remember, these are the same goons who promote "globalization" and "free markets." That's the system where your grandkids get to compete with a chinese factory worker making .50 an hour
