8N WHEEL WEIGHTS

quick question I have a 48 8n and was wondering do all n's have wheel weights on the inside of the Rim by the fender? the are round just was wondering

Daivd8n.......metalic wheel weights are NOT common. Why? 'cuz they're EXPENSIVE. Most of the time, when added weight is needed for traction, they fill the innertube with about 23-gals of metal eating calcum chloride water. CaCl is added for both anti-freeze and weight. Others use non-toxic unused RV-toilet water. Beetgard is even heavyier. Most of the time, N's do NOT need added traction. .......Dell

Yeah i found out that the one tire is filled also when I took them off want to find rims and fill them both with something that doesn't eat the metal. only problem is emptying the filled tire what do you do with the fluid? I have almost new tires but when I was clearing snow today I did a lot of spinning

Mine came with 300 pound weights that bolt to the outside of the
rim. They 300 each, one piece. They are a bear to full with.

I disagree Dell.
I would say you need added ballast in order to put your tractor's rated hp to the ground.

I will agree "most" of the time -- but then ---

Put some snow & or ice under it & some snow in front of a blade --

And it'll be spinning away.

I have a '49 with rear inner wheel weights and a '51
with CaCl in the tires. I use those tractors for
tasks which require extra tractor - plowing,
discing, moving snow, etc. I have others without
ballast that I use for mowing, moving trailers, etc.

i have 12.4"s loaded up to the valve plus a 140# wheel weight on each rear wheel, a front bumper weighing 100# tractor scales 3600# less driver. for the work i use if for, this gives me the optimun tractor for this model and size, steep country, skidding logs, pulling 8" double disc, hauling heavily loaded trailer, etc. with no extra ballast this tractor would be useless for my purposes.

Pushing snow and plowing dirt, it's no contest between weighted and unweighted tires. I have a set with inner rim weights and filled tubes, what a difference it makes.

hey Doggie.......most 23hp N's are NOT used for pulling plows where additional traction enhancing weight is needed. Me? Iff'n I need more traction, its CHAIN time. .....respectfully, Dell

If you're pushing snow, you need chains on the rear tires. Adding cast iron wheel weights or filling the tires with fluid just plain will NOT give the same results as a good pair of tire chains.
