Hey all my netural safty switch has been acting up lately. Today it would only start in reverse. After looking at the manual I can not determine how the saftey switch is mounted. What I am getting at is should I be concerned that a loose bolt or something else might fall from the switch into the gears below. Any thoughts or ideas? THANKS!!

check out the switch in front of the steering column. refer to nh online parts diagram.. or yer parts manual or service manual.

Starter switch is not complicated. To check ground the wire to the switch. If switch is defective you need to remove the trans cover to replace it. Sorry you will have to remove the steering wheel, hood and steering box to get to it. Much easier on a 8N.

there is a cast iron safety bar under the trans cover, often breaks. this prevents you from using 2 gears at once. must be fixed.

Dayum half these folks are confused with an 8N,.

btll be tomorrow fore i can post that pic.

I told him exactly where to look for the switch on a 9n/2n... shouldn't be to hard to figure out..

Yeh, I saw your reply, and fig. that would be the end of it, BUT, Most of the new guys, are confused as to where the actual starter switch is!!!!
And that switch usually is 90% of starting mech. failure!!!
We may not ever find out if he got it fixed, and HOW!!!!????

I'm wondering why you are talking about the starter switch when it seems that his problem is with it starting in reverse? is that not just an interlock problem?

Thanks all, the picks helped alot. I think my problem is in the interlock. The reason I say that is it would only start in reverse the other day wich it should not do plus when it does act up I can feel the starter activate button is not going all the way down. It acts like its in gear. Looks like its going to be a pain to get to it to fix it. If anyone has a shortcut to fix it other than removing all the steering, hood and such let me know and THANKS for the help!!!!
