I live in SE TN, gets real hot here, plan on bush hogging 17 hilly acres. no thermostat in there now. which one should I get?

you will get opinions both ways, with good reasons to back them up.. IE.. hotter to be a more even temp to burn off crud.. or cooler to help cooling system.

bottom line.. either is better than none.. this is almost like what brand of oil do you like.. :)

Cutty,Any one is better than none and I like the 180 best because it keeps the moisture out of the oil better and fuel to burn cleaner and plugs hotter and cleaner Also a 180 won't cause it to run hot in the summer time.

160 degree stats hark back to the days of alcohol-based antifreeze - something no one uses today. Use a 180 and your engine will warm up faster and your oil will stay cleaner longer.

If your engine overheats with a 180 stat in it, either your radiator is not completely open - inside or outside - or your fan shroud is missing. Pressurized cooling systems will carry 180 stats with no problem IF everything else is healthy and normal. JMHO.

Cooling system seems to be in pretty good shape but I don't have a fan shroud, from what I've read many people here don't have a shroud either and it doesn't seem to bother them. Was at TSC today and they only had 160 stats there I decided to get some opinions before I got one. Thanks

I am also in Tn[SW]and I use a 160* thermo. and have no problem with it 180* would probably be quicker to warm, especialy in winter.9ns did not come out with pressurized rads or shrouds.I have a lazer electronic thermometer& in hot weather,it runs+or-170*.Of course I'm not talking about where I used to live at 110* in far south Texas[Rio Grande Valley}---lha
