2N Axle Collar

Any tips to get this on. I stuck the axle outside in 35 deg weather. Dangled the collar in front of space heater til smoking. Went to slip collar on but hangs on axle lip. Tapped a bit w hammer but obvious that it would stick halfway. Suggestions? Thanks, Dave

This collar has to be heated up to red hot. I don't think you got it hot enough.

Does the bearing have to be that hot? Now I'm concerned that the bearing may not be seated.

No - the collar keeps this bearing in place. You should be able to press/pound the bearing in without any heat.

I have used a piece of ridgid pipe slightly larger than the axle to pound the collar down on the bearing.---lha

Sounds like good insurance. Especially if I dont heat the collar enough. Thanks!
